Which Manufacturers Make Great Second Hand Cars?

When looking for a second hand car there are probably many factors you will need to take into consideration. You will need to find something which matches your needs, be it an off road vehicle, an executive saloon or a disabled friendly car. You will also look for something which is a good deal. You don't want to find out a few weeks later that you paid £1000 for a car that is only going to last you a few months, even if it is a sports car.

Basically a great second hand car is something that will meet, or even exceed your needs, and will last you a decent amount of time. Luckily you can normally rely on certain makes of car to deliver this sort of utility as well as value for money.

BMW

Buying a BMW may seem like it will be out of your price range without having to buy something that's done 200,000 miles. But in actual fact just a slightly older BMW can be a very nice little purchase. Thanks to their superior build quality out of the factory, they tend to last a whole lot longer than their lower quality counterparts and will often work fine way beyond the 100,000 miles mark. This means that you could pick up a relatively high spec car with a reliable engine for less than £2000 which has done no more than 100,000 miles.

Audi

Similarly to BMWs, Audis are generally considered to be higher spec vehicles, and if you are looking for a second hand car you could easily find one for a reasonable price that is not too old. This is especially true if you choose a diesel model as generally diesel engines will last a lot longer than petrol engines.

MG

Sadly MG went into administration in 2005 which saw their price drop as there were no new parts being manufactured. This means that right now you can easily pick up a very nice sporty MG for a lot cheaper than if they were still in production. This does however mean that you will have a harder time getting parts like alternators and starter motors, but at least you will have a nice cheap hot hatch.

VW Golf

The Volkswagen Golf is a special car in that it loses its value a lot slower than many other cars. This is down to their almost cult status and their excellent build quality. There is never really a bad time to pick up a Golf no matter how old it is.
